Shovel Knight Dig is a platform roguelite video game developed by Nitrome and Yacht Club Games and published by Yacht Club Games. It is the third game of the Shovel Knight series and a prequel to the original.[1] It was released September 23, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Apple Arcade. The game follows protagonist Shovel Knight as he digs and fights enemies through several different worlds to reclaim his stolen treasure bag from Drill Knight.[2] The game was received positively by critics, who highlighted its visuals, music, and familiar controls.

The player controls Shovel Knight digging through procedurally generated levels, collecting gems, and fighting enemies. At the end of each world, the player faces a boss before preceding to a new world. Dying takes the player back to the surface, with gems collected on previous runs kept to buy better armor and items.[3]

Shovel Knight Dig received an aggregate score of 81/100 on OpenCritic, with 84% of critics recommending the game.[13] On Metacritic, the game received a 84/100 for the Nintendo Switch version and an 81/100 for the PC version.[4][5] Reviewers highlighted that the game controls very similarly to the original making it easy to pick up.[14] However, many noted that the roguelite elements of the game were underwhelming.[10]
