Pikmin 4 is an upcoming real-time strategy video game in the Pikmin series, developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is a direct sequel to Pikmin 3 and is set for release in 2023.[1]

Pikmin 4 has the standard Pikmin series gameplay. The player controls a miniscule leader, commanding the smaller Pikmin species.[1] Pikmin 4 adds a new mechanic to deploy Pikmin, and a camera option much closer to the ground.[2]


Development


On September 7, 2015, Pikmin creator Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed to Eurogamer that Pikmin 4 was in development, and "very close to completion".[3] On July 7, 2016, Miyamoto said in an E3 interview with Game Rant that Pikmin 4 was still in development, though at a lower priority.[4] On June 19, 2017, Miyamoto reassured Eurogamer that the game was still "progressing".[5]


Marketing and release


Pikmin 4 was announced by Shigeru Miyamoto in a Nintendo Direct on September 13, 2022.[1] The video glimpses the game, without any gameplay or story details.[6] Nintendo also announced that the Pikmin T-shirt worn by Miyamoto during the announcement would be released at the Nintendo New York store and Nintendo's website.[2][7]
